About this weed

Bladder weed, also known as Hibiscus trionum, is an annual plant that is native to the Levant and the east of the Mediterranean.
In South Africa, bladder weed is known as Terblans Bossie, which means “little bush of Terblanche”.
Bladder weed is an erect to straggly herb that can grow to be 20–60 cm tall. It has white or yellow flowers that are creamy-white to pale yellow with a dark purple center. The plant has a strong white taproot with many slender laterals in the upper layers of the soil.
Bladder weed is edible, and the young leaves and young shoots can be eaten raw or cooked. The root is also edible, but it is very fibrous and has little flavour.
